GREENPLANET
Green Planet is my second
attempt at a 3D art image. This time I went for a spacey
look. The scene consists of two spheres, the main
planet, and the orbital planet, and a cylinder to create the
ring around the main planet. The modeling wasnt the
challenge in this image, the real challenge was creating an
"environment" around the planet (all the green stuff
to surround the planet). Obviously with my little amount
of skill in 3DM, I couldnt every well model the smoke and what
not, so I cheated. I used an environment background
image and had the planet reflect the image so that it seemed
to go around the planet.
To create the feel
of a planet, I first found a good planet map, and then shaded
it green in Corel. I found a second planet map for the
orbital, and shaded it a slightly different green. Even
still, they didnt really look... alive... so to say. The
final touch to the planets was a bump map. I found a map
of the moon, and used it. It was already grey and white,
so it worked very well. The rest was just material
settings, opacity settings, and a few minutes to render.
The text, shapes,
crosses, and star effect were all added in my photo editor
(Corel) afterwards to fill in space and make it a nice desktop
image.
